Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week kicked off it’s Spring 2010 runway shows yesterday to a rain-soaked crowd at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. In a bid to stand out as the official LA Fashion Week organizer, DTLA colaborated with The Dept of Cultural Affairs for the City of Los Angeles and some famous LA faces to produce the kickoff show, the Fashion Angel Awards Emerging Designers Show. Judges Randolph Duke, Nony Tochterman of Petro Zilla, Nick Verreos, Project Runway winner Jeffery Sibilia and Vanessa Gonzalez selected three emerging designers to showcase their collections. And while Im a bit bias to GenArt who’s been supporting emerging designers for years (it’s kind of their thing), what the heck. There are more than a few indy designers in LA who could use a little boost and with GenArt’s ‘Fresh Faces in Fashion’ show not until the end of the month, I guess there’s room for everybody.
