Fashion Week thaws out from NYFW’s deep freeze as it hits Palm Desert next month for FASHION WEEK EL PASEO. Fashion-consicious consumers and retailers will hit the big tents from March 15-23, 2013.
Saks Fifth Avenue, Lloyd Klein, Anthony Franco, Sue Wong and a slew of Project Runway alums (Mondo, Seth, Gordana, April, Fabio and of course Palm Springs’ golden boy Michael Costello) are all slated to hit the runway. Tickets are available at FashionWeekElPaseo.com.
Since it’s FLASHBACK FRIDAY and all…let’s take a peek back to last year’s scene on and off the runway!
Held at the Petersen Automotive Museum last week, Gen Art brought together five emerging designers for their annual “Fresh Faces in Fashion” runway show. With a tastemaker crowd and alums like Zac Posen, Rachel Pally, Jeffrey Sibilio and ahem…Kushcush (yes, a shameless plug), the show is always one to watch!
Somewhere in-between floaty florals and Doc Martens is Seneca Rising. The juxtaposition was like a of coming-of-age story where feminine youth is replaced with growing despondence & grunge.

Fashion loves some drama and Valerj Pobega certainly brought it. Behind the ball gag and nipple tassels were kimono sleeves and white silk caftans with gray hand-dyed stains. The finale proved no less the wallflower, with a beautifully disturbed ballet dancer twirling on high toe to an operatic pitch.

Fashion off the runway….cant go wrong with Gucci and a velvet blazer!
Loving the look…These boots are made for more than walkin’!
GenArt always bring out the style-setters and scenesters wearing the next big thing, so last night’s Fresh Faces in Fashion runway show was the perfect event to rock my new obsession, vintage super hi-waisted jeans I picked up last week in Phoenix.
Style This! The jeans are a serious statement, so the key to not making them look like you’re going to a 70’s theme party is keeping the rest of the ensemble modern, clean and chic. I paired them with a cream silk top by Banana Republic, a few wrist bangles from Vita Fede, tan Mary Jane platforms from Shoes for Lovely People and my grey leather Miu Miu. I love how the braided handle looks with the hi-waist, itreminds me of the 70’s, but is totally modern.
Stella McCartney? Chloe? Every fashionista with a blog was inquiring on my fabulous vintage find. Check out some pics below.
Me being interviewed by FabSugar for their “Look of the Day.”
Dont forget the shoes!
Louis Verdad & I talking fashion… “Vintage?” he asked. “They are too fabulous, tell them they are Stella McCartney!”
And the jeans? I bought them on a road trip to see U2 last week. One of my favorite things to do on a road trip is to check out local vintage and thrift stores. These came from ‘Classic American Kaos’ in Tempe, Arizona. A fabulous mix of vintage jeans, cowboy boots, concert t’s and vintage dresses with a super knowledgeable & friendly staff.

I wasnt exactly sold on the fur-tails and tassels from Marc Jacob’s Spring 2010 Collection for Louis Vuitton (it actually reminded me a little too much of the rabbits foot keychains from the 80s), but since his Paris presentation, Ive spotted fur dangling and draping on fashion-forward Angelenos all over town. Let’s see who’s been drinking the LV kool-aid.

Spotted outside the shows at MOCA. Surprisingly, I actually kinda love this. The cool leather biker jacket, black trousers and slip-on shoes, all had a cool factor that doesnt look like she’s trying too hard.
Spotted at Future Heretics in Los Angeles. Okay, a little too Ted Nugent! This one kind of scares me a little. You should be wearing the outfit and not let it wear you, ‘um….like literally.
Spotted front-row at Future Heretics. So chic! A fur (or faux-fur!) stole looks great when toned down with a casual tee and jeans. I loved the added feminine touch of the white and black pearl strands.
