SLO to Snow

One of the magics of living on the central coast of California is having beaches, mountains and vineyards all at our fingertips on any given day. Beach in the morning and ski in the afternoon. With this winter’s epic snow, I have no idea why it took us until March to find our way to the slopes {I think we were enjoying the vineyards, lol}… Thankfully before the season ended we joined some friends in an awesome RV ski road trip (aka SNOW FAM JAM!). Just over 3.5 hours from San Luis Obispo is China Peak ski resort and wow, it did not disappoint!

Fresh snowfall! Only 3.5 hours from SLO, kiddos woke up to a winter wonderland. By noon it was shorts and major sunscreen kind of weather. Love spring skiing in California!

Unplugged… cell service is pretty spotty at the mountain, which was amazing when you have this view. And family. And friends. And a slope-side General Sherman IPA.

Littles loving it! Great beginner slope with moving carpet for the kiddos {and 5 & under ski free!}. These three amigos rocked the bunny hill from open to close!

This is the LIFE… apre-ski West-coast style // China Peak is one of the few ski resorts to have RV parking on site! Did I mention just how cool this is? Ski all day and walk back to your home on wheels and soak it all in. So.Good.

We are all stoked to go back!! Such good family time. They have some pretty good specials happening and {as of last weekend} still have tons of snow. Passes for their 2017/2018 60th anniversary season are now on sale and if you buy now you can spring ski the rest of the year for free! Cant wait for our next SLO to snow adventure! xx

Beach Bag Essentials

Summer is here! Time to pack up the beach bag and hit the sand. I gave The Fashion Spot the inside scoop on my beach bag essentials. Check ’em out and tell me… what’s in your bag?

I live on the West coast, but my monogrammed L.L. Bean beach tote reminds me of my summers spent in Maine. What’s inside? Take a peek!

1). Coola sunscreen, organic and smells amazing.

2). I almost always have at least two Kushcush swimsuits on hand. The Coquette in Blush Lace is one of my go-to faves.

3). Evian mist for hot days.

4). Sud Pacifique Vanille Coco spray, reminds me of being on vacation and is the only scent I wear.

5). Always my sketchbook.

6). Matchbox cars and healthy snacks for my son, Jax.

7). California Baby Hair De-tangler (which I originally bought for Jax, but it’s fantastic on my long hair!).

8). I’m obsessed with the Next Issue iPad app. It’s like carrying 20 magazines in one.

9). Kushcush printed scarves. They’re a major multi-tasker: from beach cover-up to blanket to scarf… and a lovely pop of style!

10). Miu Miu cross-body purse so I can easily downsize from the beach to a seaside lunch without carrying my entire beach bag.

See you at the beach!

Bellissima Italy

There is something magical about Italy. Picture-perfect vistas, charming towns, an air of romance and of course…the food. For our 10th wedding anniversary my husband & I spent two weeks discovering “Il dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing) in beautiful, inspirational & bellissima Italy.

On the beach in Montersosso al mare, Cinque Terre. Vivid colors, the beautiful sea….this photo is definitely going on my inspiration board. Perfection.

Lounging on the Italian Riviera in my Kushcush Wallflower bikini!

The vistas of Italy…grapes on the hillside, terra-cotta houses…amazing.

The Italian cocktail…a Campari at sunset (aka: the apertivo!).

Uh, I could eat these colors with a spoon.

Loving the white-washed and pastel coat of adorable Vernazza, Cinque Terre.

*** Angelo happy as a clam…er’ I mean, mussel.

Hello Torino! The U2 tour continues in Torino, Italy…

The rock star pose…Bono and the U2 famiglia!

Swimming, reading + eating pizza = bliss in Vernazza, Cinque Terre.

Wearing my Kushcush Coquette Maillot.

Beautiful Lake Como (no, we didnt see George Clooney).

Stepping back in time…quaint and quiet Varenna on Lake Como.

Our  hotel in Bellagio… so much history, Im still convinced it was haunted! Or maybe it was the huge thunderstorms and lightening crackling over the lake & alps. Either way = spooky!

Bellissimo…my husband Angelo looking oh so handsome after a day of shopping in Milan.

The Duomo…absolutely stunning.

Mama’s got a brand new bag…shopping Miu Miu in Milano.

Awww, now that’s amore… xoxo

Paradise in St. Lucia

After our romp in the snow, my husband and I headed south to the warm island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. We were welcomed to our jaw-dropping sanctuary at Jade Mountain (my line of swimwear is carried in the resort boutique!). Indulgent luxury combined with the beauty of nature. Pure blisssss….take a peek!

The smell of coconut, sea spray (love the fabulous things it does for my fine hair), vibrant fruits and flowers, the tropical glow on my skin…. this is the reason I design swimwear.

Stresses of the city fade away…sunrise yoga over-looking the ocean, fresh-squeezed tropical juices, indulgent massages and ayurvedic treatments at the Jade Mountain spa. Total relaxation.

Designed without a fourth wall, our room opened to a breathtaking view of the Piton mountains and Caribbean sea…complete with butler service, sundeck and private infinity pool (yes, in our room!).

Diving in!

{Wearing my Kushcush ‘Lucia’ style in emerald green}

On the beach with everything I need… my husband, a pina colada, sunscreen and a good book.

Kushcush in paradise….loving my new collection!

{Wearing my Kushcush ‘Riley’ bikini‘Beaux’ Cover-up}

The good life… Sailing the St. Lucian seas.

{Wearing my Kushcush ‘Coquette’ maillot in blush lace}

Ahhhh….pure relaxation.

Wild ride….zip lining through the rain forest!

Room with a view….Angelo enjoying a local Piton beer in our sanctuary.

Inspiration everywhere….watching the sun set from under a thatched umbrella.

I’ve been blissfully bundled over the last week, ringing in the New Year with my brother and family at Sugarloaf ski resort in Maine. While I covet a sun-drenched vacation (ahem, I design swimwear), it’s been a winter wonderland swooshing down the slopes, toasting apre-ski cocktails at the lodge and reading by the fire.

My brother Josh making it look so easy!

While throwing a few bikinis in a duffle is easy, packing for a winter vacation can be a serious challenge (especially when you live in sunny California). So I put together a few picks for my winter wardrobe must-haves, check it out!

Back in Black ~ The long length and skinny style on this classic turtleneck means you can easily layer for warmth or wear solo for easy apre-ski style. {My pick: I designed this one for my Fall collection a few years back, it’s made of Rayon/Spandex which makes for a super soft feel.}

Armed and Dangerous ~ You can leave the jewelry drawer behind on a ski vacation, but bringing one easy-to-wear bracelet can turn a simple turtleneck into an understated style. {My pick: Leather double-wrap bracelet with gold hex studs by Vita Fede for $63.}

Underneath it All ~ My new best friend. Layer under leggings and ski pants by day and wear with a long sleeve dress and boots by night. Love love love! I have a brown and dark grey pair that are both in steady rotation. {My pick: Merino wool in a modern cable-knit pattern, available at Stockingirl for $44.99 each.}

Twinkle toes ~ These are a staple for every trip I take, but so key on a winter vacation. They keep your tootsies warm while lounging around after a day on the slopes and the cute ballet style doesnt leave you feeling like you’re wearing your bathrobe slippers if guests come over. {My pick: Isotoner Classic Satin Ballerina Slippers for $18.}

Keep it cozy ~ Lodge chic is all about easy style. I love a cocoon-style wrap sweater or belted cardigan. They keep you cozy but add instant  style to everything. {My pick: I have a grey Kushcush cocoon sweater that is my go-to, but this belted waffle version from Shopbop also hits the mark for chalet chic.}

Boot up ~ A pair of warm winter boots that can go from dinner at the lodge to a romp in the snow is key! My pick: I scored a black version of these suede Jeffrey Campbell boots at LF’s warehouse sale (for $35!). They are the perfect mix of stylish & utilitarian and I love the tall height and cozy fur lining.
